2006
Jo Anne celebrates her 60th,
our home rises in SLO,
we give thanks!

2006 was a good year for us - although not much played out as originally "planned"! We end the year counting our blessings for good health, wonderful family and friends.

Milesones
We finally broke ground on our San Luis Obispo home in mid-February with an expectation of being under-roof by mid-September. Alas, 6 weeks of rain and other natural and human "issues" intervened and we are still working on the foundation as we head into yet another rainy season. We are "confident" that we'll be celebrating next Thanksgiving in this new abode.

We celebrated Glenn's birthday at the Paso Robles Zinfest in March with Lara, Glenn, Chris and Anna. April brought the 85th birthday celebration in LA for JoAnne's dad, Norman Heywood.

In early September we joined Anna and her family as she successfully completed the Pacific Grove Triathlon for the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society. Anna's great fund-raising efforts, training and performance were awe-inspiring!

Mid-September brought the full-weekend celebration of Jo Anne's 60th birthday! With family and friends from all phases of Jo Anne's life coming to San Luis Obispo for the big event.

Family
2006 brought our family together as California residents! Glenn took a new job in LA at the end of 2005 and Lara was able to transfer her public health work and join him in LA in March. Lara is now practicing as a private family practice physician in Santa Monica.

In early February Chris joined YouTube as their lead user experience designer. He has loved every moment of it and the November acquisition by Google has been an exciting 4th quarter event! Not to be out done, Anna's company eVault (where she is now an engineering manager) was acquired by Seagate in December.

Travel
Most of our travel this year was work related - Helsinki, New York, LA, Santa Barbara, Florida, Chicago and Cairo, Egypt!. We also had personal travel to Chicago in April, Ann Arbor for a U of M reunion in October and Hawaii in early December to balance things out a bit.

Work
Rick continues to be very happy and successful with his engineering consulting company - RNM Engineering. In early 2006 Jo Anne's investment team at Nokia was disbanded and she was challenged to find a buyer for the investment portfolio of small companies. This deal was finally completed at the end of November and Jo Anne sold herself to a VC (Milk Street Ventures) along with the portfolio of companies!

As we finally complete our home in SLO, we expect to move the focus of our lives from SF to SLO, but we have our guest suite in San Francisco available for one more year, so please come visit us NOW!
